The portable compact disc player was one of the final models in the famous “Sports” Walkman series. Following on from the ground breaking WM-F5 of 1985, the D-SJ15 was a rugged machine that was also splash proof and resistant to vibration, making it ideal for use during jogging or other similar sports. The case was cleverly contoured so that the machine could be easily grasped in one hand whilst running, a velcro band at the rear could then be pulled tight to reduce the chance of dropping the machine. The band was made reflective, presumably to make the wearer more visible to traffic as they ran along the roads, isolated by the sound from the headphones. Text copyright © Walkman Central. Yellow casework had been a widly copied identifier of the Sports Walkman series but by the time the D-SJ15 appeared this had been toned down a lot, the machine was basically black with a few yellow inserts although the supplied headphones were yellow. Technically the D-SJ15 was conventional and worked well, unusually long battery life was its perhaps its greatest asset with up to 32 hours of playback possible from only two AA cells. Text copyright © Walkman Central. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.
