This model replaced the ICF-7600D/DS. It was similarly sized and offered similar functionality, however the key changes were that it included an FM stereo decoder for headphone listening and a timer start/stop facility for an external tape recorder. It was also possible to switch between the upper and lower sidebands of an SSB broadcast. Text copyright © Walkman Central. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.
Even though this was a high quality radio when new the useful life of many examples has been cut short by deteriorating electrolytic capacitors, a common fault with Sony equipment produced during the 1990s. Replacements can restore the original performance, providing that the leaking fluid has not corroded the printed circuit excessively. Text copyright © Walkman Central.
