An improved version of the TCM-12, adding features such as a three digit tape counter, tone switch (high/low) and an electronic variable speed control. Sony’s “Flat Mic” microphone was fitted into the cassette lid, along with an LED battery/record indicator. Mechanically the TCM-17 was one of the last models to use the WM-22 mechanism, the quality of which made it equally suitable for music listening (in mono) as well as speech recording.
